What are the best parts about sales? Well, I have worked successfully in sales for 12 years, I chose to go into sales for the material rewards and skillset. I have always seen it as a very good occupation, actually a profession, and not your typical 9-5 job. I saw sales as a way to elevate my life and career.
For a start in sales even for those new to the industry, you have the opportunity to earn more than just your base salary in commission. Most roles don’t offer the opportunity to earn additional money without overtime. This contributes to creating more financial freedom and a better lifestyle.
There is a sense of growth, progress and positivity from being in sales if you are willing to work to improve your sales abilities. Significant revenue is available for you if you can acquire the soft skills to influence clients, reach your sales target and sell on schedule. There are also additional perks which are often available such as cars or other benefits. As a seller you have an important role for the business.
In sales everyone is on a level playing field towards their results. It is open to all, with or with no prior experience. It is an equalizer or egalitarian job as the only thing that defines or separates you in sales are your career high earnings, and your most recent results and revenue. You don’t require a degree to get started and you will get a lot of on the job training and potentially additional company sponsored sales training.
A lot of companies invest in tools for their sales teams and these automated or AI powered tools provide additional support and time saving so that you can be fully productive and focus on making deals.
One of the things that is best about sales in my view is that you get the opportunity to transform and inform people. That you get to present new offerings, and educate others, to see their transition from bias, due to their initial ignorance about the offering. Maybe they hold stereotypical beliefs about a company, offering or opportunity. Perhaps they start skeptical but in the best moments you achieve a sale and a striking transformation from the start to the end of your interactions. It is the chance that you get to be a catalyst to make a positive difference in their businesses and ultimately their lives. By representing a good company and good offering that will leave customers better off.
If you work for a good company and feel part of creating their success along with your own, there is a shared success which can often result in recognition for your work.
Another great thing is that a sales career gets you out there in front of people. It can actually be an exciting career, where you get to travel and attend events. You are pushed out of your comfort zone. Whether you are sociable or an introvert. Sales gives you a reason to seek people out and network more. So that you build your network and also develop your skills in presenting and networking. Meeting more new people and learning about other companies is definitely a plus.
There is always a demand for sales people who generate revenue and results and if you are willing to take the responsibility for creating and finding revenue consistently then you build yourself a path towards career progression and leadership as there are plenty of ways to move up through the ranks as you learn and deliver in each role.
